Two golden planets appear side by side in the night sky, reflected in calm water below, symbolizing a conjunction. Overlay text reads: ‘Where Energies Merge.’

? Conjunction: The Signature Merge

In astrology, a conjunction is an aspect — a significant angle between planets in a birth chart. Conjunctions happen when two (or more) planets are very close together in the sky, usually within about 10 degrees. Think of it as two voices singing the same note: the sound is louder, richer, and harder to ignore.

? What a Conjunction Means

When planets conjunct, their energies blend and amplify each other:

  • Merging of Energies: They act like a single, combined force.
  • Intensified Influence: The planets’ themes become louder and more obvious in personality or life events.
  • Harmonious or Challenging: A Venus–Jupiter conjunction might flow with ease and good fortune, while a Mars–Saturn conjunction could create tension between drive and discipline.

It’s like two co-workers sharing one desk. If they get along, the productivity is amazing. If they don’t, the friction is impossible to miss.

? My Signature Conjunction

In my natal chart, my Moon (emotions, instincts) sits right next to Neptune (dreams, spirituality) in Sagittarius — what astrologers call a Moon–Neptune conjunction. This is a defining signature for me:

  • It amplifies intuition, vision, and imagination.
  • It explains why meditation and dream-like experiences have always been so natural for me.
  • It brings empathy and sensitivity, though sometimes it feels like I’m soaking up the moods around me like a sponge.

This aspect doesn’t just show up in private. Because my Moon and Neptune sit close to my Midheaven (the public part of the chart), this sensitivity and vision often spill into how I show up in the world.

? Why This Matters

As I wrote in Sun Signs… And Then Some, the real magic of astrology lives in the details. Your Sun sign may be the doorway, but aspects like conjunctions are what fill the house with life. They reveal not only the strengths and struggles, but also the flavor of how you experience your chart.

My chart doesn’t overflow with conjunctions — so this Moon–Neptune pairing stands out as a kind of signature. It’s one of the patterns that makes me, me. And as this glossary grows, we’ll revisit conjunctions again through different charts and contexts, to see how these merges add up over time.

? Takeaway: Conjunctions are cosmic spotlights. They highlight where energies combine, where life feels louder, and where the details of your chart come alive.
