Cooking with Intention – A Savory Breakfast Bake Inspired by Kristin’s Friends Cooking

Greetings, CherryCoBiz Community! ?

I’m excited to share a delightful breakfast recipe that I recently tried. Inspired by the fantastic YouTube creator, Kristin’s Friends Cooking, I tweaked her “Easy 1 Pan Breakfast” recipe to add my own touch. As you know, YouTube is a treasure trove of inspiration here at CherryCoBiz, and this recipe is no exception.

Cooking with Love (and a Little Help from My Sous Chef)

Cooking with intention is something I deeply believe in. This dish was prepared with love, passion, and a little help from my cutie pie sous chef, the Cookie Monster – my wonderful husband. This weekend is our anniversary, and we’re celebrating with home-cooked meals. As you all may know, he is a driving force behind the V-Trucker page here on CherryCoBiz. He eats out enough as it is, so staying home this weekend and cooking is our love language. Good food, good family…. starting with this delicious breakfast we made together.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Sage Sausage (I used Jimmy Dean)
  • 1 Sweet Onion
  • A few cloves of Garlic
  • Black Pepper
  • Paprika
  • 1 stick of Butter (melted)
  • Frozen Biscuits (enough to cover the bottom of your baking pan)
  • 16 Eggs
  • 7 slices Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 block Pepper Jack Cheese (shredded)
  • Hormel Bacon Toppings Applewood Crumbled Bacon
  • Parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Sausage Mixture:

  1. Brown the sage sausage in a pan over medium heat.
  2. While the sausage is browning, use a food processor to chop the sweet onion and garlic. (I recently got a Hamilton Beach Stack & Snap Food Processor and love it!)
  3. Add black pepper and paprika to the onion mixture.
  4. Once the sausage is browned, add the onion and garlic mixture. Cook until the onions are slightly translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  5. Set the sausage mixture aside.

Prepare the Baking Pan:

  1. Spray a baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Add the frozen biscuits to cover the bottom of the pan.
  3. Pour the melted butter over the biscuits.

Assemble the Bake:

  1. Crack the eggs over the biscuits, spreading them evenly.
  2. Add the sausage, onion, and garlic mixture over the eggs.
  3. Layer the sharp cheddar cheese slices on top.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded pepper jack cheese over the entire dish.
  5. Add Hormel Bacon Toppings and garnish with parsley.

Bake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Bake for 30 minutes. If the center is not set, bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  3. Use a toothpick to check the doneness – if it comes out clean, your breakfast bake is ready!

Cooking with Intention

Cooking with intention means putting love and care into every step. From shredding the cheese myself (with some help from my sous chef) to carefully layering the ingredients, each action was done with thoughtfulness. I believe that this mindfulness enhances not only the taste but also the joy of cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. I love to cook – I’m not a professional, just someone who loves to love others with good food.

Taste Test & Future Plans

After enjoying this dish for breakfast, all the adults in our family loved it! However, my son wasn’t a fan of the sage-flavored sausage (he’s a picky eater). Next time, we might try a sweeter sausage flavor like maple. My husband suggested serving it with a side of hashbrowns and topping it with gravy for an extra hearty meal.

I personally loved adding TABASCO® Brand Chipotle Pepper Sauce to my portion – it gave the dish a wonderful smoky kick! My husband is having leftovers today and gave me a bite of his with Spicy Garlic Hot Sauce from the Springfield Trading Company. It was delicious with that sauce as well!

Maple-Apple Egg Bake with Smoked Gouda & Cheddar

Here’s a new take on the recipe that we’re excited to try next time:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package frozen biscuits
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 12 eggs
  • 1 pound maple-flavored sausage
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium apple, diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 cup shredded smoked Gouda cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Maple syrup, for drizzling

Instructions:

(See recipe instructions above in the original post)

Tips I’m Considering:

  • If the top is browning too quickly, loosely tent with foil.
  • Adjust the amount of herbs and spices to taste.
  • For extra sweetness, add a pinch of brown sugar to the egg mixture.
  • Serve with a side of fresh fruit for a complete and satisfying breakfast or brunch.

Quick Tips for a Faster Version

For those of you who are short on time or prefer a simpler approach, check out Kristin’s original video linked below. She offers quick tips for making this dish in less time.

Conclusion

I hope you find joy in trying these recipes and feel inspired to make your own tweaks. Cooking with intention brings a unique joy and flavor to your meals. Check out Kristin’s Friends Cooking on YouTube for the original recipe and enjoy experimenting in your kitchen. Stay tuned for the short video of my cooking experience, which will be linked below.

Remember, don’t be afraid to experiment with different foods and combinations. The key is to cook with love and intention. I will be writing about another twist I took when stuffing big portobella mushroom caps soon.

Happy Cooking, CherryCoBiz Family!
