? A Tale Steeped in History and Family Legacy
Today’s WordPress prompt asks, “What book are you reading right now?” and it couldn’t have come at a more intriguing time for me. I’m currently immersed in a manuscript that is not just a book, but a journey into my family’s heritage and a significant event in Cherokee history.
? Introducing the Story: Rooted in the Cherokee Nation
My reading journey takes me deep into the heart of the Cherokee Nation, through the skilled storytelling of a very special author – my mother. Her narrative revolves around a pivotal event: the Goingsnake Massacre of 1872. This isn’t just a historical recount; it’s a tapestry of personal ties, political intrigue, and a stark look at the complexities of jurisdiction and justice between the Cherokee Nation and the United States.
? The Connection: Personal and Profound
The story hits close to home, quite literally. My grandfather grew up on the Cherokee reservation, and his father was raised by Zeke Proctor, a key figure in the Goingsnake Massacre. Through my mother’s writing, I’m discovering facets of Zeke Proctor not just as a historical figure caught in turbulent times, but as a man of depth, facing struggles and moments of unexpected love.
? Chapter 14: A Glimpse into Greatness
As I turn the pages of Chapter 14, the narrative weaves a bold and surprising tale, giving life to characters and events that have shaped not only a community’s history but also my own family’s story. It’s a tale that promises to be full of revelations, challenging our understanding of the past.
? A Story Evolving into World-Renowned Greatness
While I can only offer a sprinkle of information now, as the book is still a burgeoning masterpiece in its evolution stage, the promise of what it holds is immense. This isn’t just a book; it’s a gateway to understanding a complex, often untold part of American history through the lens of personal experience and familial connection.
? Stay Tuned: A Journey to Be Shared
I promise to keep you updated on this literary adventure, from its progression to eventual publication. For those intrigued by history, family legacies, and the powerful storytelling that connects the two, this journey promises to be an enlightening one.
So, what are you reading? Perhaps, like me, you’re exploring a world hidden within pages that speaks to your heritage, your history, or your heart.

I’m reading “How It Went Down” which is a YA novel told from numerous viewpoints about a white man shooting a black boy and how all the eyewitnesses all have such different stories that it is hard to even tell what really happened.
Wow, that sounds like a really good book. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
It is good. I would definitely recommend.
very well
