A Reverb Reflection inspired by Tom Powell Jr.
Waking up politically isn’t just trending on social media—it’s survival.
I love to see people waking up. Truly. It’s slow, yes—but it’s happening. And sometimes, all it takes is one honest voice like the woman in this video by Tom Powell Jr. to crack through years of misinformation. That matters.
About halfway through the video, Tom says he’s lived through every administration since Nixon. Same here. I was born in 1975, and let me tell you—I’ve seen some things too. When I was younger, voting didn’t feel like a priority. I talk about that more in another blog post, but honestly? Politics felt like a foreign language. And growing up as a girl in the late ’70s and early ’80s, I wasn’t exactly encouraged to learn it.
Nobody was desperate for young women to understand politics. And certainly not in my household. My parents never reallty talked about it, and to this day, my dad still won’t. I think it’s because he doesn’t fully understand it either—and you know what? That’s okay. You don’t have to have all the answers to start asking the right questions.
Recently, I told someone my site leans left, and she replied, “Oh, I don’t lean either way.” And I get that. I used to consider myself right in the middle too. But the gravity of recent events has shown me something different. This moment we’re in? It isn’t about left or right anymore. It’s about right and wrong.
If this were a normal political climate, I wouldn’t be talking about any of this. Most days, I wouldn’t care. I used to assume the government had my best interests at heart—a cozy little delusion I now realize was rooted in privilege and lack of exposure.
I was raised not to talk about two things: religion and politics. And for a long time, I honored that. I stayed quiet, kept the peace, did my best not to stir anything up.
But look at me now.
CherryCoBiz is loud and proud about both—because your best health and wellness doesn’t reside in a vacuum.
The more I write, the more I research, the more I listen, the more I feel compelled to help others see the truth too.
And by truth, I mean the reality outside the carefully crafted echo chambers—truths about policy impacts, economic patterns, who’s actually helping and who’s just performing, and how misinformation keeps people voting against their own interests. Truth, in this context, is clarity—and once you see it, it’s hard to unsee.
Because here’s the thing: I voted for Trump once before—not in the most recent election—and by then I knew better. I had lived inside the Fox echo chamber, believing the narrative. And yes, I’ve asked—can we sue for that? Because we were lied to. Repeatedly.
But outside that echo chamber? There’s a world of good, well-meaning people trying to get the word out. Trying to wake others up before it’s too late.
We need to do better. For ourselves. For each other. For the ones who are still asleep—because I promise, they’re not unreachable.
So here’s the question: What will you do to help?
Silence is what got us here. The question is, are we brave enough to speak?
