From Rocks to Rings: My Love for Life’s Little Treasures

Do You Have Any Collections? Funny You Should Ask…

I’ve actually always been a bit of a collector at heart. Over the years, I’ve gathered everything from beautiful rocks and colorful glass pieces to maps and globes that sparked my imagination about far-off places. But when it came to jewelry, that passion arrived a bit later. It wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate it—I did—but for a long time, my lifestyle just didn’t call for it.

I worked jobs where jewelry didn’t really fit the narrative, and I leaned more into a practical, natural version of myself. There were definitely times when I enjoyed playing with makeup or curling my hair just for fun—but most days, you’d find my hair pulled up, and I fully embraced a simple, laid-back kind of beauty. Different seasons of life bring out different versions of us, don’t they?

That brings me to my jewelry collection—the one that grew slowly over time and now holds some of my favorite memories. Most of it is casual, everyday wear, but a few pieces are from places like Zales and the Shane Company. And truthfully? Some of the pieces I love most came from Avon! They’ve become little reminders that beauty doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag.

In fact, some of my most meaningful purchases were from Avon’s fine jewelry collection nearly 15 years ago—pieces I still wear regularly. Longevity, to me, makes something just as special as the sparkle it carries. And then there are the treasures I bought more recently for my birthday—if you’re curious about those, I shared all the details here:

One of those birthday rings holds a story I’ll never forget. Back in February, I was in the hospital recovering from the flu—fresh out of ICU, actually—and during my last few days there, I met a lovely woman who had just been admitted. Despite the circumstances, we found this beautiful connection through deep conversation, shared wisdom, and a little light in a dark moment.

The day I was discharged happened to be her birthday. I asked my husband to bring up all the rings I had recently purchased—still brand new, still in their boxes. I didn’t care which one she chose; I just wanted to gift her something beautiful, a symbol of friendship and hope in that moment. She opened the very first box and said, “I don’t even need to see the rest. This is the one.”

And just like that, the perfect piece found its perfect moment.
