The Evolution of My Sports Fandom: From Broncos Fan to All-Star Game Enthusiast

Daily writing prompt
What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

Sports have always been a part of my life, but my relationship with them has been a bit… well, let’s just say it’s complicated. I enjoy watching certain sports, but I’m not exactly a die-hard fan. My preferences have evolved over time, shaped by experiences, family influences, and even a memorable trip to an all-star game.

Football: A Family Affair

Growing up in Denver, Colorado, football was a big deal. Broncos season was practically a holiday, and I even dabbled in a few friendly bets on the games. My dad was a huge Broncos fan, and he even recorded a couple of songs about them! I remember feeling incredibly proud of him as I went door to door in Wheat Ridge, selling his blue-and-orange vinyl records. Those were fun times, filled with community spirit and a shared love for the game.

Baseball: Not My Cup of Tea

I’ve been to a baseball game, but I can’t say I’m a fan. Everyone always told me it’s so much better to see it live, but I wasn’t impressed. It just felt a bit slow and uneventful for my taste. My best friend, on the other hand, loves baseball. It used to be his go-to sport to play, but for me, it’s just not a great match.

Hockey: Fast-Paced and Exciting

Hockey, now that’s a sport I can get behind! The fast-paced action, the incredible skill, and the occasional brawl make it incredibly entertaining. There’s something about the intensity and physicality of hockey that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Basketball: An Unexpected Love

I never thought I’d be interested in basketball. It just wasn’t my thing… until I attended the 2005 NBA All-Star Game at the Pepsi Center in Denver. That experience completely changed my perspective. The energy of the crowd, the incredible athleticism of the players, and the star-studded entertainment made it an unforgettable night. Since then, I’ve found myself enjoying basketball more often, even on TV. Sports and Me

While I don’t play any sports myself (unless you count swimming!), they’ve always been a part of my life in one way or another. From selling my dad’s Broncos records to experiencing the thrill of an all-star game, sports have provided me with memories, entertainment, and a sense of community. If you’re looking for a fun way to exercise that feels more like play than work, read about my adventures in the pool in The Most Fun Way to Exercise: Making a Splash with Swimming.
