Confessions of a Cat Lady Who Secretly Loves Dogs

Daily writing prompt
Dogs or cats?

When it comes to the age-old debate of dogs versus cats, my answer might surprise you. Despite having four beloved cats, my heart still leans toward dogs. But shh, don’t tell my feline fur babies!

Meet the Fur Babies

Let me introduce you to the stars of my household. First, we have my noisy Siamese, a ball of fur who craves love and affection 24/7. He loves being smothered and will meow incessantly until he gets his fill of cuddles.

Then there’s our Tuxedo, a chubby bundle of joy who loves to give affection—but only on his terms. When he’s in the mood for love, you don’t have a choice but to comply. Watching him get spunky is one of the highlights of my day.

Lastly, we have the Twins—Lexi and Indi. They come from the same litter and are almost identical, with a few unique quirks. Indi, our White Trash Panda, has a tail reminiscent of a lemur or raccoon and a peculiar habit of fetching trash instead of toys. He’ll bring you a wrapper from the trash and expect you to play fetch with it. His sister, Lexi, is our Pretty Princess. She is gentle, loving, and always manages to be precious, even when she’s being mischievous.

Why Dogs Hold a Special Place in My Heart

Despite the joy my cats bring, I find myself missing the unique companionship of dogs. Dogs greet you with boundless enthusiasm when you come home and can accompany you on various adventures. Their loyalty and love are unmatched, creating a bond that I deeply miss.

Living with cats has been an unexpected journey, especially since I’m allergic to them. Initially, our family had two cats, and eventually, we ended up with four. I joke that this was a sign of my craziness, but the truth is, I wouldn’t trade my fur babies for the world.

That being said, if I were to consider getting another cat in the future, I would love to raise a Maine Coon alongside a pup. These majestic cats are known for their size and gentle nature, making them a perfect addition to any household.

Remembering Ruffy

This blog post wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Ruffy Duderonomy Twinkie Turner, the unforgettable dog who stole my heart. Ruffy was a special case, adopted after being returned for his unfortunate behavior with cats. With no cats in my life at that time, he was a perfect fit for our family.

Ruffy had his quirks and emotional issues but was incredibly loving and obsessed with me. I have countless stories of our adventures together, from his playful antics to his loyal companionship. Unfortunately, after eight wonderful years, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. Thirteen years later, I still miss him and cherish the memories we made.

Conclusion

In the end, whether it’s dogs or cats, the love and companionship these animals bring into our lives are irreplaceable. While I adore my cats and appreciate their unique personalities, my heart still yearns for the joy and loyalty that dogs offer. Who knows? Maybe someday, when the time is right, I’ll have a pup and a Maine Coon to complete my furry family.

For now, I’ll continue to enjoy the playful antics of my four cats, cherish the memories of Ruffy, and dream of a future where I can have the best of both worlds.

Feel free to share your own stories and experiences with your pets in the comments. I’d love to hear about the special animals that have touched your lives!
