To My Teenage Self: A Letter of Love and Lessons

Daily writing prompt
What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Dear Younger Me,

As I pen this letter, I’m transported back to our shared past, a time filled with dreams, doubts, and the kind of innocence that only youth can claim. I’ve learned so much since those formative years, and there’s so much I wish I could tell you, advice that perhaps was whispered in our ears but we were too young, too enmeshed in the throes of adolescence to heed. Yet, here we are, with me reaching back across the years to offer you the guidance and love you always deserved.

You Are Lovable, Focus on You

Firstly, know this: you are lovable. In a world that often feels cold and unwelcoming, never doubt your worth or the love that you inherently deserve. It’s easy to fall for the first person who offers us a semblance of affection, to try and make something work out of sheer will. But remember, love isn’t something you force; it’s a gift that finds you in its own time. The anxiety you feel, the pressure to mirror a life that seems out of reach, it’s not worth the weight it adds to your heart.

It’s Okay to Be Yourself

The pressure to conform, to fit into a mold that society deems acceptable, can be overwhelming. But here’s a truth that took me years to understand: it’s okay to be yourself. The world is not always kind, and people can be cruel, but don’t take it to heart. Not everyone deserves the energy and love you’re capable of giving. Be cautious, be selective, and most importantly, be true to yourself.

Your Path Is Unique

Our Little Grandma’s life, with its picturesque home, her devotion, and the love story that seemed straight out of a fairy tale, was her path, not ours. Each life is unique, a tapestry of individual choices and chances. Don’t fall into the trap of comparing your journey to anyone else’s. Happiness and fulfillment come from within, from making choices that align with your inner truth. Trust your instincts—they are your natural guardians.

Embrace Self-Love and Mindfulness

You are beautiful, no matter what society’s standards may dictate. Embrace yourself, love yourself fiercely, and know that you are capable of achieving greatness. Start practicing mindfulness and meditation now; it’s a journey that requires patience but offers profound peace in return.

And about the psychic? Well, let’s just say not all advice is golden. Trust in your own strength, your own intuition.

Final Thoughts

Younger me, if there’s one thing I want you to hold onto, it’s the belief in your own worth. Love to live and live to love. Start your journey towards mindfulness today, and never stop believing in the beauty of your dreams. Your path is yours alone, and it’s waiting for you to walk it with your head held high.

With all the love and wisdom I’ve gathered,

Terra Turner
